Generally speaking, lithium batteries are divided into lithium metal batteries and lithium ion batteries according to the different forms of lithium. And according to market demand, there are many different ways of segmentation, mainly the following:
- According to the number of times used, they are divided into: disposable lithium batteries and rechargeable lithium batteries. Most lithium metal batteries are disposable lithium batteries. Rechargeable lithium metal batteries have been successfully developed, but are relatively rare in the market. Rechargeable lithium batteries used in daily mobile phones, power banks, power tools, electric vehicles, energy storage devices, communication base stations, etc. are all lithium-ion batteries.
- According to the product appearance, they are divided into cylindrical, soft-pack, and square lithium batteries. The outer packaging of cylindrical and square batteries is mostly steel or aluminum shells. The outer packaging of soft-pack batteries is aluminum-plastic film. In fact, soft-pack batteries are also square. In the market, aluminum-plastic film packaging is usually called soft-pack batteries.
- According to the pole piece material, they are divided into: lithium iron phosphate battery (LFP), lithium cobalt oxide battery (LCO), lithium manganese oxide battery (LMO);
- Binary battery: lithium nickel manganese oxide, lithium nickel cobalt oxide;
- Ternary battery: lithium nickel cobalt manganese oxide battery (NCM), lithium nickel cobalt aluminum oxide battery (NCA), etc.
